Produced by the Willamette Week, Portland’s Pulitzer-winning alt-weekly, and Smart Cannabis, not to mention co-founded by our Director of Production, Jeremy Plumb, this year is looking to be the biggest and brightest yet.

The Cult Classic is the only competition for craft cannabis with a regenerative approach, paired with a public education event in Portland, Oregon, curated especially for thought leaders, policymakers, producers, budtenders, and consumers. It’s the only competition in the world with strict testing requirements that have to demonstrate zero presence of pesticides or chemicals in their entries. Everything culminates in an epic awards ceremony celebrating winning chemovars in categories from terpene diversity to overall dependability, best hemp to best Type 2 flower, and Oregon’s Regenerative Cannabis Farm Award.

Beyond the scientifically-rigorous competition, the information from judge’s tallies goes onto help build a true database of effects. Smart Cannabis’ predictive algorithm takes all answers into account, essentially creating the first real product recommendations based on real user evidence.

In addition to entering several of our own exclusive cultivars to the competition, Jeremy Plumb will take the stage during the panel, Production Science: The Road Ahead, where he will speak alongside Alison Justice, PhD, OutCo; Lasse Schulze, Cronos Group; and Guy Rocourt of Papa & Barkley. The experienced group of large scale producers will discuss the challenging combination of major cannabis production and a rapidly transforming climate, research and development at hand and the road ahead.

Attendees can also meet some of the crew at our booth, where we’ll be giving sneak peeks of the latest from the Innovation Lab and some of the never-seen-before terpene profiles coming down the line.
